This ice too thin to take my weight

This ice too thin to take my weight,
Emotions running deep.
This crumbing cliff on which I stand,
Denies the right to sleep.

And if I slept,
The ice may break.
To darker depths I’d go,
Drowning in the memories,
And all I used to know.

And if I slept,
The cliff may fall,
Buried I would be,
Crushed with guilt and regret,
For all eternity.

Oh, how fragile I’ve become,
Scared and filled with fear,
Volcanic in my anger,
And always close to tear.

I find it hard to find the words,
Can’t even write a song,
I can’t confide in others,
For it would take too long.

Today’s the hardest day by far,
Within this darkest year,
I long to celebrate this day…but…
You’re no longer here.
